737 HUD Combiner (click to return)
The Heads Up Display (HUD) comprises four parts.
The projector and CRT;
The combiner;
The control panel, located in the center pedestal, used to select the mode and enter data; and,
An annunciator panel (korrys) located on the MIP on the First Officer's side.
Later model HUDs do not have the control panel which is part of the menu system in the CDU.
The HUD allows Cat IIIA landings down to 200m RVR and take-offs in 90m.
The combiner pictured is the older style used initially in the 727 and then 737-500.
The combiner is manufactured by Flight Dynamics. Initially used by UPS N917UP (727-30C). It was then used by Lufthansa D-ABII (737-500) and Evergreen International Airlines N701EV (727-30C) before being removed from service.
In time, the combiner will be installed to the flightdeck and connected with a projector and the ProSim737 HUD software.
Images are of the combiner and the HUD in operational use in a B767 (the HUD is identical in the 737). Note that this is the new HUD. Thanks to @Marco for providing me the images of the B767 HUD.
